Introduction: Neuroanatomy Video Lab - Brain Dissections

The video showed the surface of the brain, the cross section of the brain, and half hemisphere of the brain. On the surface of the brain, there are different lobes which is the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe. From the surface of the brain view, there is the brainstem, cerebellum, and the surface of cerebral cortex. Those three-part  is known as the ventral surface of the brain. Next, the cross section of the brain shows more details about how gyri and sulci look on the surface of the brain. Gyri is beige in color and known as gray matter. The cross section of the brain shows the inner part of the brain which we will not be able to see from the surface of the brain view. Then, one of the hemispheres of the brain was shown. From this view, it allowed us to see the brainstem that is located in the midsagittal section, which consists of midbrain, pons, and medulla.

Autism & The Brain

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the normal development of the brain, causing an autistic person to have a different approach in socialising in a neurotypical community. The parts of the brain that are affected by autism are the cerebral cortex, the basal ganglia, corpus callosum, cerebellum, brain stem, hippocampus and the amygdala. Someone with autism may not have a 'normal' working brain, meaning that certain parts of the brain may not function as typical as others. Hence, this may cause a difference in a person's behaviour and personality.
